INTRODUCTION
My name is Jack Doorgeest, retired and living in the Portuguese Algarve.
During my working life in the Netherlands, I have had an office for many years as an independent for
the production of 3-dimensional technical illustrations used in workshop manuals.
My technical background is built up from this work, where a high degree of technical insight and visualization was a first requirement.
After a visit to the Factory Five Racing factory in America in 2015, I was
very charmed by their Factory Five Mk4 Roadster, a replica
of the AC Cobra designed by Carroll Shelby.
A beautiful example to build yourself and which was marketed by FFR in kit form.
Because of my technical insight, I dared to build this beautiful roadster myself in Portugal.
I bought the Factory Five roadster kit in 2015 and used the Dutch company Hamming Performance as an intermediary at the time:
The Factory Five roadster is supplied as a basic kit, without engine, gearbox, rear suspension, wheels, brakes and tyres, these parts had to be ordered separately.
After the kit was delivered from America to Portugal, the self-build adventure could begin.
Because a beautiful manual full of photos was included, building the kit was a great pleasure.
After my Roadster was built and ready to drive, I wanted to have it inspected in Portugal to
get a Portuguese registration number, unfortunately the Portuguese RDW (IMT in PT) did not know
how to deal with a self-built car in terms of approval.
The advice was to have the inspection carried out in the Netherlands for a Dutch registration certificate. I had it brought to the Netherlands to have the RDW inspection carried out in collaboration with Hammink Performance, the inspection went smoothly and my Roadster got the beautiful license plate GT-696-G
I am still driving with the NL license plate because importing and
inspecting in Portugal is a fairly expensive story.
Because I do not drive my MK4 Cobra often enough, the fuel I
use is not unleaded petrol but it runs best on Aspen 4 petrol
Aspen 4 petrol is specially developed for use with engines that are not used regularly.
